Fussy Eaters:

It can be really stressful if your child becomes a fussy eater.  Here are my top tips to help mealtimes become something everyone looks forward to:

EIGHT TIPS FOR FUSSY EATERS…..

ONE

Weaning

A good relationship with food begins during weaning.  Wean your baby using home-cooked food, and let them enjoy exploring new tastes and textures during the six to twelve month taste window when babies tastebuds are more accepting of different flavours.

TWO
Join in

Get your children helping in the kitchen, they love to eat fresh food that they prepared.

THREE
Meal times

Eat together so your children see you eating the same food as them, and also so they don’t feel the pressure of you just watching them eat. Remember that meal times shouldn’t feel pressurised and they should be as much about the conversation you have together as they are about eating.

FOUR
New Recipes

Don’t assume your child won’t like something. Always try new recipes, it’s surprising what their tastebuds approve and disapprove of and how these can change.

FIVE
Small portions

Offer small manageable portions so your child isn’t put off or overwhelmed.

SIX
Finger Food

Put a plate of crudités in the middle of the table for your children to help themselves to - things like cucumber, red pepper, tomatoes. Children love the independence of serving themselves.

SEVEN
Set Simple Rules

Set some simple rules that you all abide by as a family. One of my rules is that children always have to try everything, even if it’s just one bite. Then, after tasting it, if they really don't like something we don't make a fuss or remove it from their plate, they just leave it on the side and eat the rest of the meal.

EIGHT
Tiredness

Make sure your chid isn’t overtired or hungry when they sit down to eat.
